Why MCP really is a big deal

MCP had become an important AI technology in the six months since its introduction, but I wasn't convinced any of the existing explainers really got to the point. MCP is about a common protocol for agents, yes, but its real value lies in enabling agentic microservices of the kind that were then beginning to emerge in the enterprise. Later debate about MCP vs. Skills would also rest on this important point.
