Luna

Putting off the preparation of my Spain photos even more, I’ve been working on a picture of the moon I took last Monday night. I had to strike while the iron was hot, unfortunately; crystal clear skies and a March first-quarter moon cannot be passed up except at great need.

Using the webcam techniques I’ve described before, I took 39 individual movies of about 100 frames each, totalling 3.28GB of raw data (compression is turned off until the very end, when I save it as a JPEG). I aligned and stacked in Registax as always, and assembled and touched up the tiles in my new copy of Paint Shop Pro.

Keen observers will notice a small dark smudge on the lunar limb at about two o’clock. This is either a sign of the impending alien invasion or a slip of the mouse during my touching up. I hope to have a larger version of the file without this blemish (if indeed it is not evidence of impending invasion) available tomorrow.
