Good gravy! I DID realize you were in Spain, but didn’t make the connection.

Yes, we’re safe, and we’re done with the tourist portion of our trip. We are now staying in Cuellar with our friends, where I am plugged into a real, live LAN with a real, live DSL connection behind it. This is living, Spanish style.

I’ll post a tedious account of the trip with pictures within a week and a half of today, God willing. (We’ll be back on Monday night.)

Thank the Lord, you are safe. Maybe you can give us a better picture of the feel over there.

That is difficult, with not speaking the national language. I’d like to have been reading the papers and watching the local news, but that’s less than fruitful. (French class! Stupid French class! Four years! ARGH!)

I’m sure the election results have been widely reported, which really say all that needs to said about the national mood.

I can report the firsthand observation that the Madrid Atochia train station (where the bombs went off) is peppered with several very Catholic-looking shrines to the victims, including hundreds if not thousands of votive candles. Many of the signs there read “Paz,” as do other banners and political grafiti in Madrid.

My friend here indicates that life is going on pretty much as normal just 100 miles north of Madrid. This was most definitely not the case anywhere in the States the week after September 11, which is food for further thought.

I’ll be posting on this in detail soon. Stay tuned, my friend.
